Luke 9:51–62
Step 5 of 5
Decide how you will respond to Jesus.
Jesus is moving toward Jerusalem with purpose. The question in this passage is not merely whether we admire His determination, but whether we will follow the One who speaks with such urgency.

Watch the companion video, then continue reading to examine the biblical testimony in its full context.
Count the Cost Honestly.
Jesus does not lure followers with promises of comfort. He tells one man that the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head. Serious discipleship begins without false advertising.
Stop Making Faith a Future Intention.
Two responses contain delay: first let me do this, first let me do that. Jesus’ words expose how easily “later” becomes a respectable way of saying “not now.”
Do Not Confuse Urgency With Impulsiveness.
Following Jesus is not emotional recklessness. His own journey is purposeful. The call is to undivided allegiance, not thoughtless enthusiasm.
Walk in His Direction.
The Savior has set His face toward the fulfillment of His mission. The fitting response is to stop negotiating for a safer, more convenient version of following and to take His call seriously now.
Consider this.
What response does Jesus require?
Respond.
Follow the resolute Savior without treating discipleship as a permanently postponed intention.
