Good Friday was not the end.

The empty tomb was not the final word.

Jesus was alive.

And He kept appearing.

For forty days, the risen Christ presented Himself alive.

Not as an idea.

Not as a memory.

Not as a symbol.

Alive.

The News That Started the Gospel

The Gospel did not begin as advice.

It began as news.

Jesus died.

Jesus was buried.

Jesus rose again.

Jesus is alive.

That is what broke open the world.

Not a new moral program.

Not a religious slogan.

Not a vague hope that love wins.

The crucified Jesus stood alive among His followers.

He showed them His wounds.

He ate with them.

He spoke peace.

He opened the Scriptures.

Then He sent them to proclaim repentance and forgiveness in His name.

The Road Where Hope Was Broken

Two disciples walked away from Jerusalem.

Their hope had collapsed.

They said:

“We had hoped…”

Those are heavy words.

They had hoped Jesus was the One to redeem Israel.

But He had been crucified.

The tomb was empty, yes.

But they did not yet understand.

Then a stranger joined them.

It was Jesus.

But they did not recognize Him.

He listened.

Then He corrected them.

“Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into His glory?”

Necessary.

Not accidental.

Not failure.

Not Plan B.

The cross was the road to glory.

He Opened the Scriptures

Jesus did not rise and leave His disciples guessing.

He explained Himself.

Beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He showed them the things concerning Himself.

The Bible was not a pile of disconnected religious fragments.

It was moving toward Him.

The suffering Christ.

The risen Christ.

The living Lord.

When He broke bread, their eyes were opened.

They recognized Him.

Then He vanished.

And they said their hearts had burned while He opened the Scriptures.

That is what the risen Jesus still does.

He opens blind eyes.

He opens closed minds.

He opens the Scriptures until they point to Him.

Peace in the Locked Room

That same day, the disciples were gathered.

Confused.

Afraid.

Behind closed doors.

Then Jesus stood among them.

“Peace be with you.”

They thought they saw a spirit.

Jesus did not leave the matter vague.

He showed them His hands and His feet.

He invited them to touch Him.

He ate in front of them.

The risen Jesus was not a ghost.

Not a metaphor.

Not grief wearing the mask of hope.

He was bodily alive.

The same Jesus who was crucified now stood before them in resurrection life.

The Message Was Clear

Then Jesus opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.

And He gave them the message:

“Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all nations.”

There it is.

The Gospel proclamation.

Christ suffered.

Christ rose.

Repentance is preached.

Forgiveness is offered.

In His name.

To all nations.

The message is not “try harder.”

Not “be spiritual.”

Not “admire Jesus.”

The message is that the crucified and risen Jesus is alive, and sinners are summoned to repent, receive forgiveness, and follow Him.

All Authority Belongs to Him

Later, Jesus said:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”

Not some authority.

All authority.

Over nations.

Over history.

Over sin.

Over death.

Over you.

Because He lives, His mission goes forward.

Because He reigns, His people go to the nations.

Because He is with them always, they never go alone.

Then He told them:

“You will be My witnesses.”

The Church was not built on human enthusiasm.

It was built on the risen Christ.

The opened Scriptures.

Apostolic witness.

And the power of the Holy Spirit.

The Verdict

This is the news that sparked the Gospel proclamation:

Jesus died for sins.

Jesus rose from the dead.

Jesus is alive.

Jesus is Lord.

Repentance and forgiveness are proclaimed in His name.

That news still presses every reader for a verdict.

If you are skeptical, do not dismiss Him lightly.

Look at the witness.

The empty tomb.

The transformed disciples.

The opened Scriptures.

The proclamation they could not stop preaching.

If you are seeking, come to the risen Christ where He has revealed Himself.

In the Scriptures.

In the Gospel.

In the announcement that the crucified One lives.

If you believe, do not keep resurrection hope private.

You are a witness.

Passion Week is not history to admire.

It is Jesus pressing the world for a verdict.

He died.

He rose.

He is alive.
