Coming to Jesus According to Jesus
You have read about Jesus. You have heard people talk about Him. Maybe you have heard sermons,
arguments, religious claims, objections, testimonies, or debates.
But now the question is simpler:
How do I actually come to Jesus?
Not according to religious noise. Not according to inherited labels. Not according to what people added later.
According to Jesus Himself.
Coming to Jesus Is Not First About a Label
Coming to Jesus is not first about picking up a new religious label.
It is not first about joining a system. It is not pretending you are morally perfect.
It is not cleaning yourself up so Jesus will finally receive you.
“I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Mark 2:17
That means the doorway to Jesus is not pretending. It is truth.
You do not come to Jesus by claiming you are already whole. You come because you know you need mercy,
forgiveness, rescue, and life.
Jesus Calls You to Come to Him
Jesus does not merely say, “Think about Me.” He does not merely say, “Admire Me.”
He says:
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Matthew 11:28
That is His invitation.
- Come to Him with your guilt.
- Come to Him with your weariness.
- Come to Him with your sin.
- Come to Him with your questions.
- Come to Him with your empty religion.
- Come to Him with your broken life.
- Come to Him with your need.
Jesus does not invite the self-satisfied. He invites the burdened.
Jesus Will Not Cast Out the One Who Comes
Maybe you wonder, “Will Jesus receive me?”
Jesus answered that directly:
“Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.”
John 6:37
That is not vague religious encouragement. That is a promise from Jesus Himself.
The one who comes to Him is not driven away.
Not because your record is clean. Not because your past is impressive. Not because you have earned a place.
But because Jesus receives sinners who come to Him.
Jesus Calls You to Repent and Believe
Jesus’ first public proclamation was clear:
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:15
This is the response Jesus calls for: Repent. Believe.
To repent means to turn.
- Turn from sin.
- Turn from self-rule.
- Turn from hiding.
- Turn from pretending.
- Turn from every false refuge.
- Turn from the idea that you can save yourself.
And believe the gospel.
Believe the good news that Jesus came for sinners, gave His life as a ransom,
poured out His blood for forgiveness, rose from the dead, and gives eternal life to those who trust Him.
“The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 19:10
“The Son of Man came… to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45
Jesus Connects Forgiveness to His Own Blood
Jesus did not present forgiveness as a vague hope. He connected forgiveness directly to His death.
At the Last Supper, He said:
“This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”
Matthew 26:28
Jesus died to bring you forgiveness.
Your sin is not ignored. Your guilt is not explained away. Your evil is not treated as harmless.
At the cross, Jesus gives Himself for sinners.
Forgiveness is not something you manufacture. It is something Jesus provides.
Jesus Gives Life
Jesus did not only come to forgive. He came to give life.
“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
John 10:10
“I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”
John 10:28
“I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.”
John 11:25
Jesus does not merely point you toward life. He claims to be life.
To come to Jesus is to come to the One who forgives sin, defeats death, and gives eternal life.
Jesus Is the Way to the Father
Coming to Jesus means being brought back to God.
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6
That means Jesus is not one spiritual option among many. He is the way to the Father.
Not because a religion says so first. Because Jesus says so Himself.
If you want to come to God, Jesus says the way is through Him.
What It Looks Like to Come to Jesus
Coming to Jesus is not complicated.
It is serious, but it is not complicated.
According to Jesus, you come by turning from sin and trusting Him.
You can come to Him honestly:
Jesus, I come to You because You said You came for sinners.
I confess that I have sinned and need mercy.
I turn from my sin, my self-rule, and every false refuge.
I believe You gave Your life as a ransom and poured out Your blood for the forgiveness of sins.
I believe You rose from the dead and give eternal life.
Receive me, forgive me, and make me Yours.
Teach me to follow You.
This is not a magic formula.
The words themselves do not save. Jesus saves.
But this is the kind of response Jesus calls for:
repentance, trust, surrender, and coming to Him.
Do Not Wait to Become Worthy
Do not wait until you feel clean enough.
Do not wait until you understand everything.
Do not wait until your life looks religious.
“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.”
Mark 2:17
The sick do not heal themselves before coming to the physician.
They come because they need healing.
So come to Jesus.
- Come honestly.
- Come humbly.
- Come now.
“Whoever comes to me I will never cast out.”
John 6:37
