Current step: Question

Examine what Jesus calls us to question in our beliefs or lives.

Central truth · Question

Religious activity does not make wrongdoing acceptable to God.

Verified Scripture is unavailable here. No other language or edition has been substituted.

After seeing Jesus exercise authority over worship, today we confront the assumption that sacred activity automatically receives His approval.

The temple is full of religious activity. Sacrifices are connected with worship, money is being exchanged, and people are moving through a sacred space. Jesus still declares that something has gone profoundly wrong.

Sacred Location Is Not Enough.

Being near holy things does not make every practice holy. Jesus refuses to treat the temple as immune from moral evaluation simply because it belongs to Israel’s worship.

Activity Can Hide Corruption.

Jeremiah’s “den of robbers” exposes a dangerous assumption: people can practice injustice and then use religion as shelter from God’s judgment.

Efficiency Is Not the Highest Value.

Systems can become convenient, profitable, and familiar while losing sight of the purpose they were meant to serve. Jesus asks a more fundamental question: does this still honor what God intended?

Religion Is Not Beyond Examination.

Jesus does not reject worship; He defends its true purpose. The confrontation is with religious activity that continues outwardly while resisting prayer, justice, and the God it claims to serve.

Tomorrow, let this confrontation become a personal examination of worship, motive, and practice.

Consider this.

Which assumption does Jesus confront in you?

Examine your assumptions

Allow Jesus to examine whether religious activity is actually producing worship, justice, and truth.

Greed is just fear disguised as security. Jesus frees us from the tyranny of stuff so we can taste genuine wealth.
